Network Affiliates Reception
-- June 7

Meanwhile, back in L.A. there was still more to do. The next phase of this process was tonight's Network Affiliates' Conference Reception. Managers from stations throughout the country were in town for a couple of days for meetings and seminars and typical business convention activities. In other words, I have no real idea what they were doing.

[Badge of Honor]

What I do know is that they get one night of schmoozing with the stars that appear on their network. That means Drew Carey and Jenna Elfman and Melissa Joan Hart. Or, at least, in theory. None of those people were at the Hyatt Regency Hotel this evening. Now that doesn't mean it was a total loss. It's fun to meet Norm McDonald, Jennifer Grey, and Bill Maher, too, right? We can be pretty sure, however, that no one was really there to meet the two unknowns from the fall's new sitcom, especially when none of the affiliates had a chance to see it yet.

But these were the folks you could meet if you had flown in from Columbus, Ohio, to talk about your station...

Ducey, Lisa Cerasoli, Steven Dunham

Our show was represented by Stephen Dunham and me. Pulling secret double duty was Lisa Cerasoli, who appears in the pilot episode of Oh Grow Up as well as having a contract role on ABC's own General Hospital. The three of us did a tiny bit of schmoozing but mostly caught up with each other and the few people at the party that we had met so far in the process. I inquired after Binghamton, New York's WMGC representative, but was told that no one from that station had made the trip. Too bad. It would have been interesting to get his or her feedback. Maybe next year.

It was yet another fun little piece in this whole crazy puzzle.
