overall rating / overall share / 18-49 year-olds rating
October 14, 1999
Damn. Why won't these numbers just kick into gear and start climbing? We dropped below 7 in overall rating and below 5 in 18-49 rating, both ignominious milestones for the show. And do you remember when I mentioned that thing about a single-digit share being a kiss of death? Well, our share was two digits by the skin of its teeth. On top of the drop in all three numbers, we also suffered on our retention of Drew's audience. Overall, we kept 75% of them in their seats. For the 18-49 set, we held onto only 68% of his fans. What's going on? It's so frustrating to think of people turning away, not giving us a chance. We deserve more!!!
This week's mitigating factor is baseball. Again, we're up against America's Pastime. This week, however, two of the greatest rivalries in the league are going on. Red Sox/Yankees has a lot of history. How do I blame America for checking to see the score and then forgetting to turn back? Ideally, this will hurt The West Wing the most. If people go away from the show for two weeks, they might not know enough to come back to it and decide to let it go. Well, come check out ABC then, I say.
Gotta keep hoping...
Industry interpretation...
October 15, 1999
With exciting teams from top markets battling it out, playoff baseball continues to knock the Nielsen ball out of the park. Meanwhile, in Wednesday's nonbaseball Nielsen highlights, 1.27 million Roswell viewers vanished in that show's second week and ABC's sitcom rookie Oh Grow Up struggled.
At 9:30, ABC's Oh Grow Up is getting into trouble, retaining just 68% of its 18-49 lead-in from Drew Carey.
