Oh Grow Up Review

San Francisco Chronicle, September 22, 1999

NBC's brisk 'West Wing' portrays a busy -- and decent -- White House

Blah, blah, blah... Score one for NBC; The West Wing figures to be a hit.

Which is more than can be said for ABC's Oh Grow Up, a horrendous sitcom about three guys sharing a house in Brooklyn.

Make that three guys and a talking dog called Mom. It speaks in subtitles. 'Arf, arf' means 'Get a room.' Laugh? Really, I thought I'd die.

The guys are Hunter (Stephen Dunham), a skirt chaser; Norris (David Alan Basche), an aspiring artist; and Ford (John Ducey), who's just declared that he's gay and left his wife (Rena Sofer).

The unbelievable aspect of this forgettable comedy is that it's created by Alan Ball, who wrote the much-praised script for American Beauty. It's a fact, and a head- scratcher.
