2000 Football Pool Weekly Update

Week Seventeen

"Behold, the hand of the Lord will fall with a very severe plague upon the cattle, the horses, the asses, and the camels." --Exodus 9:13

And eventually upon the Colts, the Buccaneers, and the Lions. The Chicago Bears have spread like a swarm of locusts, eating away at the 2000 Football Pool. Many have felt the bite -- 15 contestants in Week 10, 19 in Week 12 -- and today, 25 of us were devoured by the Chicago Plague. Bear down, Chicago Bears. Bear down.

Oh, and Kansas City lost too. This just in: They're not so good.

"You are without proper e-mail. And now I am without a proper football pool." --Spina (RIP)

With the losses came death. Among them was Mr. Spina, who made it into the playoffs last year. He is establishing himself as the bridesmaid of the pool. Also eliminated was Cook, the last of the 1999 winners to taste defeat. Mr. Cook submitted a pick for the Football Pool for 38 consecutive weeks. That's quite a streak. Now it's time to enjoy a nice relaxing New Year's with the family.

The others who have left us are Crudo, Distad, Egan, Glickman, JP Manoux, the Michalak Family, Mulcahy, Price, Ruehl, and the Young Brothers. For them there is no Christmas future.

As you probably know, we have crossed a new threshold this week. Besides having over 100 dead, we also have the first empty category. No one is undefeated. The leader board is for those with one loss.

As so the season comes to an end. But not the pool. Not by a longshot. There are still four weeks to go. And from the looks of things, they should be a very tricky four weeks. Superbowl, here we come!!

Picks are due by FRIDAY at dawn.
The slate is clean. Pick whomever you want. Keep in mind you will not be able to pick that team again for the rest of the playoffs, even if you run out of teams. (That is the tricky part I talked about.)
I will still make my pick by THURSDAY at dawn. Submit your pick in the 24 hours between Thursday and Friday if you want to keep your pick a secret from me.
