Playoffs Week Three

"Well, time to start listing my picks, so I don't screw up and pick the same team twice:

• Week 6: NY Jets

• Week 2: T.B. Bucks
  
• Week 1: Jacksonville Jaguars" --Uliana

Unfortunately for Uliana, after he lost the NY Jets pick over the Steelers, he stopped making that list. The result:

"Mr. Uliana has supported the Jacksonville Jaguars a little too staunchly this season, picking the team to win in both Week 1 and Week 14. The repeat pick gives the beleaguered gambler his second loss of the season and, with no available picks remaining, eliminates him from contention. The historic gaffe also leaves Weene all alone at the top of the leader board." --as reported by Weene

And I thought today was crazy on the football field.

Uliana actually entered the playoffs with TWO losses, not one. He has picked the same as Weene for the Superbowl and much like the Dickshots and Sitzman before him, he will remain below someone with only one loss. He is eliminated. Tough way to go.

Meanwhile, while the favorites were losing on the football field, the favorite was also losing the Ducey Pool. After twenty straight weeks with a share of first place, Ducey~Jo took a fall. How big a fall? He has fallen right out of the money with only one week to go. From a shot at $1300 to a guaranteed goose-egg.

And sometimes amidst the hoo-hah and pandemonium, we forget to honor those who have gone before us. Passing away this week were Ducey~Ji and Sitzman~D. They, also, made it very far but will not be sharing in any football pool riches this season.

So it comes down to one game and a possible four winners. If the New York Giants win the Superbowl, we will have a four-way tie for the football pool. Weene, Rudofsky~Ja, Spears, and Stein~T will all be about 320 dollars richer. If Baltimore proves victorious, however, we have a sole winner of the 2000 Football Pool collecting a jackpot of just over 13 large. That's $1310 to you and me.

It's a crazy end to a crazy year. God bless the National Football League and all the gambling it inspires.
