2001 Football Pool Weekly Update
Week Three
"Is it week 4 or 3?? My season schedule says Week 4 so that's what I'll call it and I'll progress from there." --Tabata
Week 2/3 is behind us and Week 3/4 is ahead of us. Confusion abounds. While the rest of the sports world seems to be calling last week "Week 2," the Ducey Pool is not going to follow that convention. We had a Week 2. It meant something. This was Week 3. Coming up is Week 4.
"I'm still kicking myself for not having the courage to believe in my mighty mighty Bengals in Week One. Boy that would have frosted the rest of youse guys if I'd have picked them. But I didn't." --Grant Taylor
Could have picked them in Week 3, too. The biggest hit this week came from those mighty mighty first-place, undefeated Bengals. The Superbowl Champs have fallen. It was their first loss in 12 games and their fall BEHIND the Bengals in the AFC Central. The Bengals face another undefeated team this weekend in a possible preview of the AFC Title Game: Bengals v. Chargers. One of them will be 3-0 by this time next week. My goodness.
"This week, there is only one sure pick: Indianapolis." --Huber
There were actually a few sure picks. Indy, Green Bay, Denver all performed as expected. And some teams showed they have a long season ahead of them...
"Let's hope the Redskins keep up the suckage." --Gomez
Washington, New England, Dallas, Detroit -- all seem to have suckage to spare and are winless after two weeks. Are they the doormats of the NFL this year? And do you include Tennessee and Minnesota in that list? There are still many questions to be answered in 2001.
And speaking of suckage, 14 players took a loss, 7 of them moving to the brink of elimination. Will we lose someone as early as Week 4?
The standings...
1st place -- 125 Players
2nd place -- 69 Players
3rd place -- 7 Players
The Week 4 deadline draws near. Picks can be submitted NO LATER THAN dawn on Saturday morning. And, as I think we all know, do not repeat either of your previous picks (from Weeks 1 and 3). That will be an automatic loss.
"I urge all New Yorkers and concerned Americans who wish to support the World Trade Center emergency response and victim support effort to make a contribution to the New York State World Trade Center Relief Fund." --Governor George E Pataki
In world events, the 2001 Football Pool donated $2100 dollars this week to aid the cause. We gave to help those who are left and honor those who were lost, especially friends of the football pool: Mike Tinley, father-in-law of Kennedy, and Doug Gardner, a good friend of Haynes. May God hold them peacefully in his hands.
Thanks to everyone for agreeing to the donation.
