2001 Football Pool Weekly Update

Week Six

"If you have already picked Minnesota, then this is a tough week." --Paulsen

That appeared to be true heading into a tricky Week Six. And there were many close games. But when the dust settled, the four biggest picks were all winners.

"It seems the trick to this game is to find the team that is the sure winner of the week and then pick their opponent: Tampa Bay" --Steck (RIP)

Meanwhile, making a unique pick just meant you suffered alone. Tampa Bay, Arizona, Miami, San Diego, Kansas City, and Denver all fell, yet they were only responsible for 21 total losses in the pool. Taking the total up to 23 were Mann and Flower who missed the Saturday morning deadline. It cost them a loss and their football pool lives. Don't let laziness send you packing.

Joining Mann and Flower in the packing are Auby, Flynn, Glabman, Graham~M, and Steck. (Don't let bad picks send you packing either, if you can help it.)

And now for some important do's and don'ts (mostly don'ts):

DON'T pick the Thursday game this week. Thursday games are not allowed.

DON'T plan on picking a Saturday game later in the season. There are some Saturday games in December. Do not set yourself up for a grave disappointment by saving those teams until the end. (The exception is the re-scheduled week. All of those games will be available regardless of what day they are played.)

DON'T pick Oakland to beat Dallas this week. That game was re-scheduled and played. If you would have picked Oakland, congratulations, you are a genius.

DON'T send picks to pool2001@ducey.com any more. The grand experiment is over. Send all correspondence to my pesonal email address. You will not receive an automatic "got it" email. That is sad, I know, but there has been too much confusion. Send the pick to me and I will simply send your email back to you once I record your pick. If you do not receive your email back within 24 hours, send it again. There may be trouble.

DON'T repeat your picks. You cannot pick the same team twice. If you do, I will probably NOT catch your mistake. I don't check the picks for repeats. What will most likely happen, as it did last year, is that your mistake will go unnoticed until you become an actual threat to win money. Then a diligent soul will discover your mistake and dash your hopes of winning the bucks. Right, Uliana? Be careful.

DON'T expect $2010 if you win the pool outright. The total available pot is $1800.

DO submit your pick before Saturday at dawn. Saturday afternoon is too late. Mann and Flower learned that lesson the hard way this week. DON'T let it happen to you.
