2002 Football Pool Weekly Update

Week Eight

"Prediction: HOU 24 JAX 21 So I'll go with Tampa Bay." --DelFavero

The wheels of the bandwagon finally came off this week. Exactly one half of the remaining contestants picked Jacksonville. They picked unwisely.

"Jacksonville. They were good once weren't they?" --Frank Young

Once.

"Jacksonville over Houston. I hate picking against Houston. I also hate picking Jacksonville. Why would I make this pick? I must hate myself." --Millord

But there were other smaller bandwagons that rolled along beneath the radar. Cincinnati put up a fight, but fell as usual. And Arizona barely showed up.

"After the Week 3 last-second win by New England, I promised Jesus I would only pick against Houston and Cincinnati for the rest of the season. I'm sure he'll understand, however, that this week I have to take the San Francisco 49ers. May God have mercy on my soul." --Taylor

Apparently he did. There are other souls, however, who will be joining Jesus in his rumpus room for the Week 9 games. (He does have DirecTV.) 121 hits this week and 30 of them were fatal. We lost Berg, J Boltin, Briel, Crowley, R Forte, "SNL" Forte, Gardenswartz, J Glabman, Gramlich, Gubbins, Herschenfeld, Iverson, Jacobs, Joe, Kahl, W Keen, B Lund, Kev McAteer, Meister, Modell, Ortiz, J Schaffer, A Silverstein, Stoyanoff, Walsh, A.R. Winer, C Zisk, and R Zisk.

There are worse things. Ike "MAD-TV" Barinholtz thought it would be cool to send his pick in at 2pm on Saturday. He is no longer with us. And very quietly last week, Dave Goldstein disappeared from the pool. In fact, he turned himself in:

"Apparently, I screwed up. I picked Cleveland twice. As much as it pains me, I need to take myself out of the pool. I don't know what hurts more: leaving the pool, or having Cleveland be responsible." --Dave Goldstein (RIP)
