"Life has meaning again!" --Egan~P
Yes, the 2005 season is officially underway. For those
of you who are new to the Ducey Pool, it was a thrilling, fascinating,
surprising roller-coaster of a day as the upsets poured in. For those
of you who have participated before, well, it was just another Sunday
in the NFL. Three of the top four picks went down in defeat.
"This is the year I don't completely suck." --Schaffer~J
(St. Louis)
The verdict is still out on that. And on the Rams, and
the Jets, and the Vikings, and the Broncos, and the Packers. There could
be a lot of unanticipated sucking out there.
"Karma be damned." --Nathan
(Carolina)
And going against the new America's Team turned out to
be un-opportunistic after all. The Saints found a place to practice,
it turns out.
So, heading into Week Two, we are still a little unsure
on the numbers. A few more on-time checks could still be inching their
way across the country, but we are looking at about 540 entries this
season. Given that number, the standings look something like this:
1st Place: 220 contestants with no losses
2nd Place: 320 contestants with one loss
"Sent my money on Saturday... took my first loss on
Sunday ...it's going to be a short season." --Smith~G (StL)
Don't give up hope. Though no one has ever won the pool
after a Week One loss, in 2003, Drier made it all the way to the Conference
Championships. And if you can make it to the playoffs, anything can happen.
Remember the deadline is 10am Saturday morning. A late
pick is a loss.
And do not repeat a pick during the season. It is also a loss.
