"Memorable debut for 'John Doe;' viewers 'Like' Bynes starrer
Sci-fi fans didn't forget to check out John Doe. The family
audience remembered What I Like About You. FOX teh WB and CBS
served up a flurry of premieres in an effort to beat the crush of
premieres slated for next week. The 9pm Friday debut of John Doe
was a welcome surprise for FOX. The offbeat drama won its time slot
and grew significantly from its 8pm lead-in, the new Joss Whedon
drama Firefly. The WB got off to a good start Friday with the
8pm launch of the Amanda Bynes starrer What I Like About You,
up 17% from last year's premiere of Sabrina in the time slot.
At 9pm, the sophomore season premiere of the WB comedy Reba
delivered the show's highest ratings to date, growing two share
points from its Sabrina lead-in in households."

"FOX's 'Doe' finds aud
FOX's new Friday drama John Doe is off to a strong start,
while the same net's Firefly posted only so-so numbers in its bow.
John Doe defeated its mostly-repeat competish across the
board in the 9 o'clock hour and built on the half-hour. It's the
strongest bow in adults 18-49 for any Friday series in the two years
since CSI launched on CBS. At 8pm, Firefly led its
mostly repeat competish in adults 18-49 while finishing third in
total viewers. It declined on the half-hour by most measures -- not
an especially encouraging sign. The WB's Friday lineup, which
includes the new What I Like About You at 8 and Greetings
from Tuscon at 9:30, averaged a 4.0 rating, the best ever for the
net on the night."

"The debut drama John Doe delivered perhaps the most pleasant surprise for FOX, notching a demo number not frequently seen on Friday nights. FOX's costly space drama Firefly was unspectacular, though it nevertheless won its Friday slot in 18-49."

"In addition to Everwood, the WB had a great week with preems of the returning 7th Heaven, Reba, and Charmed. For the week, the Frog placed fourth in viewers 12-34 (ahead of CBS) and first in teens. On Friday, series preem of FOX's John Doe led the 9pm hour and grabbed the highest 18-34 rating for any series bow on a Friday in four years. The WB fared only so-so with its comedy premieres What I Like About You and Greetings from Tuscon, but the second-season bow of Reba matched series highs in some demos."
