"ABC didn't get any relief on Friday. The time-travel drama That Was Then debuted to a mere 4.3 million viewers and dropped four share points and nearly 6 million viewers form its America's Funniest Home Videos lead-in. CBS, meanwhile, saw an encouraging start for its new crime drama, Hack. Hack jumped more than 5.5 million viewers from its 48 hours lead-in. The entry of Hack may have taken some of the edge off of FOX's 9pm newcomer John Doe which fell off from its premiere last week to 6.9 million viewers. FOX's other new drama, Firefly, struggled out of the gate at 8pm."

"NBC scored a rather easy victory on Friday. CBS, which was second in total viewers, saw new vigilante taxicab drama Hack finish on top for its hour in viewers and second to Dateline in 18-49. The hour was up 43% in 18-49 vs. the weak That's Life in the hour a year ago. Despite those gains at 9, though, at 8, preem of 48 Hours was a sluggish third in total viewers and fourth in 18-49, 16$ behind last year's Ellen Show and Danny. FOX's John Doe, which delievered strong numbers with its preem opposite lesser competish a week earlier, fell a surprising 30% week-to-week in 18-49 as viewers moved over to CBS to sample Hack. At 8, Firefly was off 23%. ABC's new That Was Then delivered an anemic perf with its bow, failing to take advantage of a first-place lead-in from America's Funniest Home Videos and managing just half the demo score of Thieves in the hour last season."

"Eye, WB only nets with year-to-year gains
The WB Network, which struggled last season, has come back with a
vengeance, up 69% in its key adults 18-34 demo."

"CBS, Frog big gainers out of gate
It was CBS and the WB that made the biggest strides in the opening
week of the season. The WB was up 50% or more in key demos year-to-year,
and in a reversal of last season, defeated UPN in both adults 18-34
and adults 18-49. Net's new series Everwood is playing well on
Monday, Charmed is boosting Sunday and its Friday comedies,
including the new What I Like About You and Greetings from Tuscon
spiked up in week two. Both nets figure to have the best shots at
consistently showing year-to-year gains this season. On Friday, preem
of new CBS drama Hack won its 9pm hour in total viewers and
was second to NBC's Dateline in adults 18-49. News wasn't as
good for the debuting That Was Then on ABC. The WB's laffer
lineup improved from premiere week, including a 28% climb in adults 18-34.
What I Like About You led the way winning its time-slot in
18-34, up 28% from its week-earlier preem. And at 9:30, Greetings
from Tuscon improved 50% or more in most key categories."
