ACT TWO
SCENE FOUR
INT. NORTHRIDGE STUDENT UNION - THE NEXT DAY (D.5.)
(TIFFANY ENTERS AND GOES TO JIM)
JIM
Tiffany, you look
gorgeous. Is that a...?
TIFFANY
(BORED)
Yes, it's a new dress.
I'm so happy you
noticed.
JIM
I bought these emerald
earrings for you.
TIFFANY
They're perfect.
JIM
I thought they would
set off your eyes.
TIFFANY
They do. Perfectly. Jim,
I'm breaking up with
you. What do you have
to say about that?
JIM
(PAUSE)
Well, I can't say I'm not
disappointed. You know
I'll always love you more
than any other woman.
TIFFANY
I bet you want to ask me
why I'm breaking up with
you. I bet you want a
reason, don't you?
JIM
No, no. It's a woman's
privlege to change her
mind. It's your right to
be capricious. Maybe you
need your space. Who am
I to judge you? As long
as you're happy. As the
poet said, "What will
survive of us is love."
TIFFANY
W.B. Yeats?
JIM
Philip Larkin. Goodbye,
Tiffany. Keep the emerald
earrings. No one could
wear them like you.
TIFFANY
Wait, Jim. You're too
perfect to let go.
(BITTERLY)
Too damn perfect.
JIM
Great.

(HE SITS AND PATS THE SEAT. SHE SITS)
JIM
(CONT)
So I'll pick you up at
eight-fifty-four tonight?
TIFFANY
That would be perfect.
JIM
Did you know, in
Handel's "Solomon" that
the part of Solomon was
originally played by
a woman?
TIFFANY
No. I didn't.
